Job Summary
Plays a vital role in advancing the football program's success by actively participating in the development and execution of strategic defensive plays. Assumes specific responsibilities for the preparation and execution of defensive strategies for positions such as Defensive Linemen, Linebackers, Cornerbacks, and Safeties. Contributes significantly to the overall team performance by actively supporting player development initiatives, contributing to the formulation of innovative defensive strategies, and collaborating on in-game decision-making. Additionally, plays a crucial role in supporting recruitment efforts, participating in film analysis focused on defensive play, and ensuring strict compliance with NCAA regulations governing defense. Embraces a culture of excellence and demonstrates a commitment to the holistic development of student-athletes on the defensive side of the game.
Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Actively engages in the planning, organization, and execution of both preseason and regular season practices and contests, contributing significantly as the Defensive Coordinator
2. Collaborates closely with the Head Coach to develop and implement innovative defensive strategies aligned with team objectives
3. Analyzes the strengths and weaknesses of opposing offenses to formulate customized defensive game plans
4. Provides leadership and guidance to defensive players, emphasizing skill development, proper technique, and overall performance enhancement
5. Evaluates athletes' defensive performance and progress to ensure peak effectiveness during both practices and games
6. Conducts regular individual and group training sessions, fostering a deep understanding of defensive plays among players
7. Contributes to overseeing the mental and physical preparation of defensive athletes for games, actively participating in the development of conditioning programs
8. Makes real-time defensive adjustments during games based on opponent actions and performance
9. Collaborates with the coaching staff to optimize defensive play-calling and adapt strategies to changing game situations
10. Participates in leading the recruitment efforts for prospective defensive student-athletes, evaluating both athletic and academic abilities, and presenting recruits for final selection by the Head Coach
11. Cultivates strong relationships with high school coaches, defensive athletes, and families to actively promote the football program's defensive capabilities
12. Utilizes video analysis tools collectively for a comprehensive review of defensive game footage, assessing player performance, and identifying areas for improvement
13. Conducts film study sessions with defensive players to enhance their understanding of opponents' offensive strategies
14. Ensures strict adherence to NCAA rules and regulations in all coaching and recruitment activities on the defensive side, actively participating in compliance training
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Associate's degree from an accredited institution of higher education or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience
Other Required Qualifications
Current, valid, and unrestricted driver's license
Current, and valid CPR/AED certification
Required Experience
Two (2) years of relevant experience coaching in a post-secondary level program, professional athlete, professional tour participant or professional coach in a related sports program. Experience in a Football Offensive Coaching role at the collegiate level

Pass NCAA Coaches Certification (Recruiting Test)
Preferred Educational Qualifications
An advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a related field
Preferred Experience
Successful football offensive coordinator experience in a Division 1, FBS collegiate or professional football program

Proven understanding of NCAA rules with a dedicated commitment to adhering to the regulations of the University, Conference, and NCAA
Profound knowledge of defensive football strategies and tactics
Fundamental comprehension of the professionalism and intensity required for successful contributions to a Division I athletics program
SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skills
Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e., Microsoft Office suite)
Proficient in utilizing specific video analysis systems and online recruiting databases (e.g., ACS, XOs Scout, etc.).
Strong attention to detail and follow up skills
Strong customer service skills and phone and e-mail etiquette
